1889 - Keyless winding system with a detachable winding stem
Back to Timeline
One drawback of keyless winding in pocket watches was that the crown, stem and shaft had to be dismantled before the movement could be removed for cleaning or repair.
This was solved by putting a joint between the winding stem and shaft allowing the crown and stem to stay in the pendant, while the winding shaft came out with the movement.
