1830 - Antoine-Louis Breguet built a pocket watch equipped with a special button which winding and hands setting of automatic movement. However, Breguet did not patent his invention.

1844 - Jean Adrien Philippe won the bronze medal at the Exposition Nationale des Produits de l'Industrie in Paris for the keyless winding and time setting system invented in 1842.

1847 - Antoine LeCoultre developed the keyless winding and time setting system. A separate button was used to activate one or the other function.

1866 - Ferdinand Adolph Lange also invented and patented (May 15, 1866) his own keyless winding and time setting system.
